Educational Experiences

Be a rabbit ambassador!  Alongside our regular programming, we offer: Day camps in partnership with the Animal Humane Society, Educational presentations for classes and schools and one time educational experiences.

Educational Experiences Lead

Educational Experiences Leads ensure that these events stay informative, safe and fun for humans and Rabbits. They manage scheduling and communication for these events, and lead their team in educating the public. 

Commitment: Educational Experiences Leads generally commit 6 hours a month to managing and implementing experiences. 

  • Scheduling; Work with their co-lead to maintain and communicate a schedule of educational experiences. This includes; communicating with potential organizations and institutions that we may work with and scheduling volunteers.
  • Curriculum; Work with their co-lead and the MCRS Education Director to maintain fun and educational curriculum surrounding companion rabbits and their care.
  • Event Facilitation; Work with the Educational Experiences Team to facilitate these experiences. This includes, but is not limited to; instructing in a classroom or one-on-one setting, meet and greets, agility demos, set up and clean up of events. 

Some Rabbit and Event planning experience is helpful in this role, but volunteers will be trained. 


Educational Experiences Volunteer

Educational Experiences Volunteers help facilitate an informative, safe and fun for humans and Rabbits. They educate the public about companion rabbits, oversee human and rabbits interactions and represent MCRS.  

Commitment: Educational Experiences Volunteers generally commit 4 hours a month to implementing experiences. 

  • Event Facilitation; Work with the Educational Experiences Team to facilitate these experiences. This includes, but is not limited to; instructing in a classroom or one-on-one setting, meet and greets, agility demos, set up and clean up of events. 

Some rabbit experience is helpful in this role, but volunteers will be trained.

MCRS ORIENTATION

Interested in volunteering with Minnesota Companion Rabbit Society?  Join us  at the Animal Humane Society for MCRS Orientation!  All new volunteers must take orientation.   

Classes are held in Woodbury and Golden Valley from 6:30 – 8 pm monthly.  You can register for Orientation using the form on our volunteer page.

Hoppy Hours

MCRS Hoppy Hours help fund our work in education and adoption! They are a great opportunity for the public and volunteers to exercise and socialize their Rabbits, while connecting with other Rabbit owners and the MCRS community. Hoppy Hours are hosted at the Golden Valley Humane Society, the MCRS South Saint Paul location and Urban Tails Pet Supply in Minneapolis. 

Hoppy Hour LEAD

Uptown, Minneapolis

Hoppy Hour Leads ensure that each Hoppy Hour runs smoothly, safely and fun for rabbits and humans alike. They act as the host of Hoppy Hour and a representative of MCRS. 

Time Commitment: Hoppy Hour Leads generally commit 11 hours a month to championing their location. 

  • Work with their co-lead to mange all administrative aspects of the assigned Hoppy Hour location. This includes; maintaining sign in sheets and fee and donation deposits
  • Work with their co-lead to maintain and communicate the Hoppy Hour Schedule for assigned location. For example, Leaders should let the social media team and website coordinator know if they need to cancel or reschedule a Hoppy Hour as soon as possible
  • Work with their co-lead to establish and maintain a schedule of Bouncers and groomers to work each Hoppy Hour event. This includes communicating the schedule with all Bouncers and groomers, maintaining a calendar of their assigned dates and assisting in finding a replacement if they are unable to attend
  • Act as a representative and host for MCRS at Hoppy Hours. This includes ensuring all MCRS policies, guidelines and procedures are being implemented at their assigned location
  • Answer basic questions about rabbit care and behavior for the public
  • Schedule and participate in volunteer orientation and continuing education Rabbit Care & Handling
  • Ensure MCRS’ Rabbit Care and Handling Policy is being followed at every Hoppy Hour
  • Lead and assist with Rabbit management at Hoppy Hour

Hoppy Hour Volunteers can let their Bunnies play with the $3 fee waived! Some Rabbit experience is helpful in this role, but any volunteers will be trained.

Hoppy Hour Bouncers

South Saint Paul: We ask that volunteers commit to two Hoppy Hours per month. South Saint Paul Hoppy Hours occur every other Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and every other Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Uptown, Minneapolis: We ask that volunteers commit to two Hoppy Hours per month. Uptown Hoppy Hours occur every other Friday from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Urban Tails Pet Supply.

Description

Support the MCRS Urban Tails Hoppy Hour by monitoring Rabbits that are participating. Bouncers make sure that everyone (human and Bun) has a fun and safe time at Hoppy Hour by:

  • Setting up the Hoppy Hour space (arrive 15 minutes early)
  • Cleaning up after the rabbits as they play
  • Watching the Rabbits for any stressed or inappropriate behavior (and giving Rabbits breaks with their human when needed)
  • Catching rabbits for nail trims or to assist owner at the end of Hoppy Hour
  • Cleaning up the Hoppy Hour Space (Takes approximately 20 - 30 minutes)

Hoppy Hour Volunteers can let their Bunnies play with the $3 fee waived!
