The animal welfare community in Minnesota is experiencing a large influx of abandoned rabbits this summer. MCRS, as well as other local rescues and shelters, are full to capacity and have wait lists for incoming rabbits. What can you do to help, as someone who loves rabbits?

  1. Become a Foster Volunteer - even if you can foster for as little as 2 weeks, you can help save a life. MCRS can supply all you need to care for a rabbit in your home - you just supply the space, time, care and love:) Complete a foster application here: https://www.mncompanionrabbit.org/support

  2. If you know someone who needs to surrender their rabbit, STRONGLY encourage them to WAIT until September or October. When so many rescues and shelters are full at the same time, the possibility of humane euthanasia increases. If you or someone you know does not want to see their rabbit put to sleep, please WAIT. Give your rabbit a chance by giving the rabbit community a chance to free up some foster spaces.

  3. If you are aware of someone who is breeding rabbits, thinking they can sell them or adopt them to good homes - EDUCATE them on the realities of rabbit overpopulation in our community. There are far more rabbits abandoned than there are responsible, caring homes. It is a sad reality this summer:( We at MCRS take as many rabbits in as we can responsibly care for. Our foster homes are tired, our volunteers are tired, our hearts are heavy. PLEASE HELP EDUCATE the public about preventing unwanted litters, the importance of spay/neuter, and not buying from Craig's List, pet stores or breeders.

If you would like information about any of these topics or rabbit-related issues, please email us at info@mncompanionrabbit.org. We can provide accurate, easy to understand information for you to distribute to others. You can also direct them to our website or our email. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!! The rabbits need you now more than ever!
